Become a Brascoe writer
We are happy to accept proposals for publications. Please note: We prefer to read proposals first, which will give us an idea of what your manuscript is all about. For you to become a Brascoe writer, your work must be of a very high standard.
Work that we will consider includes quality Australian writing. In other words, it is writing that moves us, work that we can't stop reading, or that we think has great potential: comedy, drama, spy, crime, thrillers, kids' books, travel works, photography books etc. We also consider anthologies of work.
We do NOT accept fantasy or poetry unless it truly is exceptional.
Exceptional fantasy will go well beyond whatever is out on the market, and will not replicate what has already been done. Exceptional poetry will be faithful to its form
(right down to metre and feet) in every way, and will 'move' us. If you are not sure whether your poetry fits a defined form properly or accurately, a good book to go and read is Stephen Fry's The Ode Less Travelled.
If you think that your work sits within these boundaries, and you think that it IS exceptional - then you will need to convince us that it has a market. If you are not sure whether or not we would accept your work, please contact us so that we can talk to you.
Submitting your work: follow these rules!
First things first: We do NOT accept full manuscripts, because we do not have time to read them all; please send a proposal instead. All material that you send to us needs to come via email only. This helps to save paper and fossil fuels, and it also keeps costs down.
What your prospoal needs to include:
- a synopsis or overview, of about a page in length - sent as an attachment please, in *.rtf format!
- a representative chapter, or what you consider to be the best part of your work (providing we can make sense of what's going on)
